Sir N. STEWART SANDEMANasked the Postmaster-General what proportion of telegraph poles are home grown, what proportion come from the Dominions, and what proportion from abroad?
§ Mr. VIANTTelegraph poles purchased by the Department are mainly of foreign origin. During the last three years only 1.2 per cent. of the requirements were forthcoming from home sources. Dominion poles are ruled out owing to the heavy cost of freight.
