§ Mr. KELLYasked the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster the number of justices of the peace appointed in Lancashire since June, 1929 and how many of those appointed were Labour men and women?
§ Sir O. MOSLEYThe number of justices of the peace appointed in Lancashire since June, 1929, is 49. Persons appointed to the bench are not asked to state their private political opinions, but, at the same time, advisory committees are requested to ensure, when making confidential reports and recommendations to me, that, to the best of their belief, different shades of opinion are adequately represented on the various benches in accordance with the Report of the Royal Commission upon the Selection of Justices, to which I have recently drawn their attention.
