asked the Secretary of State for India the amount of the contribution made to the central Government by each of the provincial governments in each year from the introduction of the Meston award until the final remission of provincial contributions in 1928–29?

Mr. BENN

I append a table giving the required information, down to 1926–27, inclusive. The entire amount of the outstanding provincial contributions was remitted in 1927–28, although a portion of the remission (totalling Rs.2,58,00,000) was then stated to be temporary. Complete and final remission was sanctioned with effect from 1928–29.
