§ Mr. MONDasked the Under-Secretary of State for the Colonies whether, seeing that married captains of the King's African Rifles serving in Tanganyika Territory are not permitted by the regulations to have their wives with them, whereas police officers and administrative 1394W officials serving in the territory are allowed this privilege, he will state the reasons that exist for this distinction?
§ Dr. SHIELSThere is no distinction between the regulations for civil officers in Tanganyika and those for officers of the King's African Rifles as regard married officers being accompanied by their wives. In both cases the Governor's permission is required before an officer's wife may join him in the territory; and where such permission is given the usual allowance towards the cost of family passages, granted to civil officers, is also made to officers of the King's African Rifles.
