§ Mr. D. G. SOMERVILLEasked the Home Secretary whether the Metropolitan Police still issue to motorists for minor offences first warnings which do not entail prosecution; whether, in that case, he can state the number of such warnings issued since the system came into operation; and how many of such motorists have been summoned for subsequent offences?
§ Mr. CLYNESThe procedure referred to is still followed and, in all, 24,643 warning letters have been issued, in lieu of prosecution, since July, 1928, when the procedure was introduced. I regret I could not say, without elaborate research, in how many cases persons who have received a warning letter have been subsequently summoned.
§ Mr. DAYasked the Home Secretary the gross amount of fines imposed on 2104W motorists in the Metropolitan Area for the 12 months ended to the last convenient date?
§ Mr. CLYNESThe total amount of fines (excluding costs) imposed for motoring offences committed in the Metropolitan Area during the 12 months ended 30th June, 1929, was £56,673 1s. 5d.
