HC Deb 02 December 1930 vol 245 c1992W
Mr. HORRABIN

asked the Secretary of State for War how much war materiel and equipment has been lent or given by His Majesty's Forces in Egypt either to the Egyptian Police Force or to the Egyptian Army during recent suppressions of public demonstrations against the Egyptian Government?

Mr. SHAW

No equipment has been lent or given to the Egyptian Government as suggested in the question. But per haps my hon. Friend has in mind the recent issue locally on repayment of some 6,000 steel helmets. This issue was made in accordance with the practice of His Majesty's Government which has been to supply the Egyptian Government on repayment with military equipment from time to time. A provision to this effect has, in fact, figured in several draft treaties.
