Sir G. HAMILTONasked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury the amount paid in royalties during 1927, 1928, and 1929 by British subjects for copying Admiralty charts, and the amount paid by foreigners for coyping the same charts?
§ Mr. PETHICK-LAWRENCEThe amounts paid in the years in question were as follow:
These sums were all paid by British subjects.
£ s. d. 1927–28 … … … 8 15 8 1928–29 … … … 6 0 6 1929–30 … … … 10 3 0
Sir G. HAMILTONasked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury why a charge is made for copying Admiralty charts for the use of fishermen; and whether he will arrange for these cheap charts, issued by Mr. Albert Close, which are largely copies of Admiralty charts, to be exempted from paying any royalty?
§ Mr. PETHICK-LAWRENCEAdmiralty charts are Crown copyright. A small charge is therefore made for copying them. I have looked into the matter and see no reason for making an exception in this case.
