HC Deb 15 April 1930 vol 237 c2759W
Captain P. MACDONALD

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether the rate of war bonus paid to men in the lighthouse service of the Irish Free State is on the same level as that paid to similar employés in this country: and whether any reduction was made in the bonuses paid to men in the lighthouse service during the six months ended 30th December, 1929?

Mr. W. GRAHAM

The cost-of-living bonus paid to these men is on the same principle as in this country, but is based on cost of living in the Irish Free State. The rate is review ed every six months, and on 1st September last was reduced in accordance with a drop in the cost-ofliving figure from 80 to 75. From 1st March the rate has been increased on a rise in the cost of living from 75 to 80.
