asked the Secretary of State for Scotland the number of houses agreed to be improved under the Housing (Rural Workers) Act, 1926, in each year since the Act came into operation, and in each county or county district in Scotland; and in which counties or county districts no action has yet been taken?

Mr. W. ADAMSON

The numbers of houses agreed to be improved in Scotland under the Housing (Rural Workers) Act, 1926, in the years 1927, 1928 and 1929 were 280, 1,109 and 2,129 respectively. I am sending the hon. and gallant Member a tabular statement containing the information asked in the remainder of the question.

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland the total number of houses repaired under the Rural Housing Act in Berwickshire and Haddingtonshire, respectively, and the total Government grants expended thereon?

Mr. ADAMSON

As at the 31st March, 1930, the total numbers of houses repaired under the Housing (Rural Workers) Act in Berwickshire and East Lothian were 126 and 468 respectively. The total grants paid as at the same date were £9,891 in Berwickshire and £43,400 in East Lothian.
