§ Mr. SHAWIt is exceptional for a soldier to fail to get a third-class certificate of education during his service with the Colours, and approximately 70 per cent. obtain this certificate during the first six months of their service. The standard of the test, which consists of arithmetic, regimental history, writing and reading, approximates to that of Standard IV of an elementary school.
