HC Deb 31 October 1929 vol 231 c334W
Mr. DAGGAR

asked the Lord Privy Seal whether, in order to accelerate road construction and improvement necessary to meet the requirements of present and future traffic, he proposes to re-explore the whole problem of road finance and the equitable distribution of the burden of highways expenditure over all classes, with the object of the annual diversion of a portion of the Road Fund to general purposes being discontinued and provision made in the next Finance Bill to ensure that the whole of the revenue from the taxation of motor vehicles be devoted exclusively to road costs?

Mr. SNOWDEN

All relevant considerations will be carefully examined in connection with the preparation of the next Finance Bill, but I cannot anticipate my Budget statement.
