Major OWENasked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Board of Trade, as re-presenting the Forestry Commission, what are the weekly wages paid to the workers employed by the Forestry Commission; and whether insurance contributions are paid in respect of the employment of such men?
Mr. SMITHThe Forestry Commission pays its forest workers the local agricultural wage except where the work is done at piece rates, which enable the men to earn more. Health and pensions insurance contributions are paid in respect of the employment of such men. Employment in forestry is excepted from the provisions of the Unemployment Insurance Acts.
