Mr. DUKES

asked the Minister of Labour how many persons have been refused unemployment benefit during the months of July, August, and September in Warrington; and on what grounds the applicants have been refused benefit?

The following table shows the number of disallowances of claims to unemployment benefit made at the Warrington Employment Exchange during the period 9th July to 14th October, 1929, classified according to the reasons for disallowance:

The total number of fresh and renewal claims to benefit during the same period was 7,002.
* In a number of these cases the decisions were reversed on appeal to Courts of Referees.
