HC Deb 07 November 1929 vol 231 c1282W
Mr. REMER

asked the Lord Privy Seal if he is aware that the works of Robert Heath and Low Moor, Limited, at Biddulph, Staffordshire, have been closed down for some months; and if he can state what steps the Government are taking to have these works re-opened?

Mr. THOMAS

I am aware of the position at these works. Some parts have been closed down for six years. The steel works which the Member no doubt has in mind were closed in 1928. It is not the province of the Government to take steps to re-open particular works. The measures I have already described to the House are designed to stimulate general trade activity, and the interests of the iron and steel industry are not being overlooked.
