HC Deb 07 November 1929 vol 231 cc1255-6W
Mr. PRICE

asked the Minister of Labour whether, in view of the fact that money is being used from the Lord Mayor's Fund to support unemployed persons transferred from necessitous areas to training centres and to work as apprentices for private employers in other areas, this money can in future be provided out of State funds?

Miss BONDFIELD

The sum which was assigned out of the Lord Mayor's Fund for the purposes of grants in aid of part of the difference between wages and cost of maintenance to juveniles transferred from the depressed mining areas to progressive work elsewhere, is not yet exhausted. I am considering the question of the need of further assistance for this purpose and the source from which it may be derived. Money from the fund is not used to support persons in training centres.
