HC Deb 07 November 1929 vol 231 c1265W
Mr. R. RICHARDSON

asked the Minister of Health whether he is aware that a number of Poor Law officers throughout the country who during the last few months have been awarded in creases of salary by their respective boards of guardians for meritorious service have not been permitted to enjoy them because sanction has been refused by his Department; and whether he will remedy this by giving his sanction to the increases which in the great majority of instances have no bearing upon the changes which will shortly take place in Poor Law administration consequent upon the operation of the Local Government Act, 1929?

Mr. GREENWOOD

I have received an unusually large number of applications from boards of guardians for my sanction to the increase of the salaries of their officers. Every such application has been considered strictly on the merits of the case.
