HC Deb 06 November 1929 vol 231 cc1051-2W
Mr. MILLAR

asked the Minister of Transport whether he will be prepared to consider proposals for the improvement of secondary roads in agricultural districts, where there is considerable farm traffic, as forming part of unemployment relief schemes?

Mr. HERBERT MORRISON

Provision has been made for grants to the improvement of unclassified roads in rural districts during the current financial year and within this provision, I am prepared to consider applications for assistance towards the improvement of unclassified roads which are repairable by the inhabitants at large. I would also point out that works on such roads are eligible for the special terms of assistance offered by the Unemployment Grants Committee.
