§ Mr. SINKINSONasked the Home Secretary if he is aware of the suffering experienced by the drivers of taximeter-cabs in cold weather owing to the exposed situation due to the want of screens; and will he take steps to make it obligatory on all owners to provide wind screens so that the comfort of the driver can he assured?
§ Mr. CLYNESI am informed by the Commissioner that representations on the subject of exposure have been received from time to time, as a result a three-quarter windscreen was approved for taxi-cabs nearly a year ago. Many cabs have had these fitted. An experiment with a full windscreen is now proceeding. It remains to be seen whether this will prove satisfactory, particularly from the point of view of public safety; and, in the meantime, it would be premature to make it obligatory on owners to provide the full screen. It is understood that the opinion of drivers on the subject is somewhat divided, some favouring the screen and others not.
