HC Deb 05 November 1929 vol 231 c870W
Sir S. HOARE

asked the Minister of Transport whether he can make a statement on the present position of the projected Battersea power station?

Mr. HERBERT MORRISON

As the right hon. and gallant Member is aware, the London Power Company, who have been authorised to proceed with the construction of the first section of the station referred to, are under obligation to take the best known precautions for the due consumption of smoke and to prevent, as far as is reasonably practicable, the evolution of oxides of sulphur, and they have, for these purposes, been conducting experiments on the prevention of the evolution of oxides of sulphur. The present position is that an Interim Report of the Government Chemists on these experiments has now been received and is under consideration. I am arranging for the publication of this Report as soon as possible.
