HC Deb 04 November 1929 vol 231 c620W
Sir B. FALLE

asked the First Lord of the Admiralty whether any decision has yet been arrived at as to the employment of pensioner officers' stewards and cooks as officers' servants at Whale Island?

Mr. ALEXANDER

It has been decided that a number of junior officers' stewards in the ward room messes at Whale Island and His Majesty's ship "Vernon" shall be replaced by pensioners. Pensioners of all branches of the Royal Navy and pensioners of the Royal Marines will be eligible, but preference will be given to those with previous experience of the duties involved.
