asked His Majesty's Government the amount of the annual grants made by the Government under the following heads in the Island of Lewis: Housing Grants, Board of Health Grants, B.O.A.S. Grants, Education Grants, Ministry of Transport Grants, Unemployment Grants, Old Age Pensions, War Pensions?

The annual grants made in 1928–29 to the Island of Lewis, including Harris, under the heads referred to were approximately as follow:—

*The Old Age Pensions figures given under heading 1 relate to approximate annual expenditure on non-contributory old age pensions (including pensions payable to blind persons) under the Old Ago Pensions Acts, 1908–1924. Figures relating to expenditure on old age pensions payable under the Contributory Pensions Act are not available as the records are not arranged on a territorial basis.
† In addition to the annual grants for Health Services specified under heading 1, capital grants were made for Health Services of approximately £4,450 to Lewis and £200 to Harris.
‡ In addition to the annual grants specified under heading 2, capital grants for Agricultural Services were made of approximately £3,050 to Lewis and £50 to Harris and loans were made of approximately £9,300 to Lewis and £800 to Harris.
