§ Sir R. THOMASasked the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether he is now in a position to state what recommendations have been made by the committee appointed by the Governor of the Gold Coast in regard to the sale of spirits to the natives?
§ Mr. AMERYThe answer is in the negative. The terms of reference of the Commission were as follow:
The Commission will naturally have to investigate matters in many places, and I do not expect to be informed of their report for some time.
- (a) To advise whether any, and if so what, further action should be taken to control the consumption of spirits in the Gold Coast and Ashanti.
- (b) In the event of action being advised which would be likely to result in an appreciable loss of revenue, to make recommendations with a view to making good such loss.
