Mr. CHAMBERLAINI am not supplied with daily returns of the numbers relieved. The largest number of persons in receipt of Poor Law relief in England and Wales on any Saturday in the month of January, 1929 (excluding lunatics in asylums, persons in receipt of domiciliary medical relief only, and casuals), was 1,141,997 on Saturday, 12th January. The number of persons in the excluded classes was 127,000 approximately.
