Mr. GUINNESSThe programme of fish research of the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research is at present confined to white fish. A preliminary inquiry into the problems connected with herring fishing has been made, and it is intended to extend the programme of research to embrace the herring industry as soon as facilities, particularly personnel, permit. In the meantime certain of the investigations being undertaken, for example, on smoking and curing, may be expected to have a bearing on the herring industry.
