§ Sir L. WORTHINGTON-EVANSThe number of recruits for the Regular Army finally approved during the recruiting year ending 30th September, 1928, was 30,185. As regards the second part of the question, records are only available in respect of the London area, where 71 per cent. of the recruits were stated to be unemployed at the time of enlistment. This percentage is obtained from the statements of the recruits; no independent check is possible.
