HC Deb 04 February 1929 vol 224 c1430W
Mr. DIXEY

asked the Minister of Transport if he is aware of the fact that the importation of foreign stone is adversely affecting employment in this country, and that as a result of this importation one firm of quarry owners only, in the East of Scotland, has had to close one of its quarries and to keep another on short time, thus throwing nearly 70 men out of employment; and will he consider again urging upon local authorities the desirability of using British stone on highway repair and construction?

Colonel ASHLEY

I would refer my hon. Friend to the answer which I gave on 28th November to a similar question from the hon. and gallant Member for the Basingstoke Division (Sir A. Holbrook) of which I am sending him a copy.
