HC Deb 04 February 1929 vol 224 c1428W
Mr. HORE-BELISHA

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether it is the policy of His Majesty's Government to connect the settlement of the reparations question with the problem of the evacuation of the Rhineland?

Sir A. CHAMBERLAIN

I have been asked to reply. His Majesty's Government are equally desirous of securing a final settlement of reparations and the early evacuation of the Rhineland. There are great difficulties connected with both questions, but there can be no doubt but that agreement upon the former would make easier an agreement about the latter. In this way the two questions are inevitably connected, and His Majesty's Government will lend all the aid they can to the settlement of both.
