§ Mr. N. BUXTONThe net cost of the headquarters and inspectorial staff (including appropriate overhead charges696W borne on the Votes of the Ministry and of other Departments, e.g., office accommodation, rates, stationery and printing, superannuation, postage, telephones and telegrams, etc.) was £176,656 in 1913 and £579,437 in 1928. The total net expenditure incurred by, or on behalf of, the Ministry in the years in question (including the expenditure referred to above) was £299,071 and £41,965,789, respectively. Included in the last-mentioned amount is a sum of £2,831,722 for the subsidy on sugar and molasses manufactured from beet grown in Great Britain. The above figures include expenditure in connection with the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, but are exclusive of Fisheries Services.
