§ Sir R. GOWERasked the Minister of Health whether his attention has been called to the recommendations, following a recent experiment in the course of which tenderers were asked to quote alternative prices for certain British and foreign materials, by the General Purposes Committee of the London County Council, that such authority should extend its policy of imperial preference to many of the materials used in the construction of dwellings and other buildings; and whether he will consider the desirability of making his approval of housing schemes submitted to him by local authorities conditional upon such authorities, wherever practicable, using British materials, particularly British cement, stone, lime, slate, paper, and bricks, in the erection of the houses the subject of such schemes?
