9. Mr. A. M. WILLIAMS

asked the Minister of Agriculture how many prosecutions have been made this year against owners of live stock for failing to promptly notify the authorities of the presence of foot-and-mouth disease on their farms; and what fines, if any, have been imposed?

Mr. GUINNESS

Six of these cases were dismissed, but in the other 14 cases the fines imposed amounted to a total of£255 10s. plus£56 3s. 6d. costs, giving an average penalty of£22 5s.
