HC Deb 20 November 1928 vol 222 c1569W
Commander BELLAIRS

asked the Minister of Health whether be can make a statement as to any progress achieved as the result of the Public Health (Smoke Abatement) Act, 1926?

Mr. CHAMBERLAIN

There are now five regional advisory committees, including one for Greater London, and one executive committee with administrative powers. An Order has been made bringing new processes under the operation of the Alkali Act. By-laws as to the emission of black smoke have been approved for a number of local authorities, and generally there is a marked quickening of interest and activity in the work of smoke abatement.
