§ Mr. SAKLATVALAasked the Minister of Transport if he is aware that the Central Electricity Board have adopted measures to acquire compulsorily the property and works belonging to Masson, Scott, and Company, Limited, in Town-mead Road, Fulham, daily employing an average of 115 persons and having a record of steady trade for 16 years; and whether, in order to avoid creating this unemployment by forcibly closing a, going concern, he will direct the Central Electricity Board to select another site?
§ Colonel ASHLEYI am informed by the Central Electricity Board that they have taken no steps to acquire land or works at Fulham, but that at the request of the Board the Fulham Borough Council is considering the extension of1558W their existing generating station. Should it be necessary for them to apply for compulsory powers for this purpose under the machinery provided by the Electricity (Supply) Acts, it would fall to the Electricity Commissioners, before making an Order in the matter, to take into consideration all the circumstances of the case. I might remind the hon. Member that suitable sites for generating stations for the requirements of Greater London are extremely hard to find and almost necessarily involve the acquisition of land now used for some other purpose.
