HC Deb 14 November 1928 vol 222 c897W
Mr. W. THORNE

asked the Minister of Labour the reason for the maximum period of six years in cases of unemployment, refund where contributors have been exempted from the Unemployment Insurance Acts after contributing for a period of over eight years?

Sir A. STEEL-MAITLAND

I presume that the hon. Member refers to the right to claim a refund of contributions paid under the erroneous belief that certain employment was insurable. The limit of six years is fixed by the Unemployment. Insurance (Return of Contributions) Regulations, 1926. There must obviously be some limit to the period in respect of which refunds may be claimed, and a maximum of six years before the date of the claim seems reasonable.
