HC Deb 13 November 1928 vol 222 cc698-9W
Colonel WOODCOCK

asked the Secretary of State for Dominion Affairs whether there is still a cinema officer employed by the Empire Marketing Board; what is his salary; what are his duties; has he had any previous experience in cinema work; and what is the estimated amount to be spent by the Empire Marketing Board this year upon film production?

Mr. AMERY

A cinema officer is employed under the Empire Marketing Board at a salary of £1,250. His duties are to supervise all the activities undertaken on behalf of the Board in regard to films, including the production, by established firms in the trade, of any films which the Board may require for publicity purposes. The officer had not previously been engaged in technical cinema work, but he had had experience which was felt to qualify him for the Board's particular requirements in this field. The present commitments of the Board for production purposes in the current year are limited to £3,500.
