asked the Under-Secretary of State for India whether, seeing that on the Doom Dooma Tea Company's plantation in Assam, in 1924, out of a total working population of 8,691 there were 1,559 children at work, he is now able to state what is the average age of these children, how many hours they are required to work on the plantations, and what are the wages paid to them?

The average age of children employed on this estate in 1924 was stated to be 14 years, the aver age hours of work about four, daily and average earnings approximately Rs.8 per mensem, with various benefits in kind in addition.
