HC Deb 12 November 1928 vol 222 cc526-7W
Brigadier-General CLIFTON BROWN

asked the Secretary of State for War whether the mechanisation of the two cavalry regiments is now completed; whether their new organisation is considered efficient; whether the maintenance and equipment of these two mechanised regiments will cost less than they did as cavalry regiments; and, if so, how much less?

Mr. COOPER

Good progress is being made with the mechanisation of the two cavalry regiments, but it is not yet complete. So far as our experience goes, the new organisation promises to be a success. As regards the last two parts of the question, it is too early to say what will be the financial effect of the change.
