HC Deb 24 May 1928 vol 217 c2068W
Mr. LANSBURY

asked the Under-Secretary of State for India whether he is aware that money sent to Dr. Annie Besant, Adyar, Madras, for the public purposes fund and used exclusively for the payment of fees for poor students who bring certificates of good character, regularity, and diligence, has been held up and reclaimed by the Government of Madras instead of being forwarded to her; and whether he can explain the reason for such action on the part of the Government, and give instructions for the money to be forwarded to Dr. Besant without delay?

Earl WINTERTON

I have no information on this matter, nor do I know to what fund the hon. Member refers in his question.
