HC Deb 21 May 1928 vol 217 cc1520-1W

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether he has any information showing the extent to which the extraction of sulphate of ammonia from the air has affected the prices of sulphate of ammonia produced at gasworks?

I am informed that the average price per ton at makers' works of sulphate of ammonia (21.1 per cent. nitrogen) declined from £13 6s. in 1923 to £9 16s. in 1927. During that period the world production of synthetic sulphate of ammonia increased by about one-third; but the market has been affected by a number of factors, and it is not possible to say what part of the fall in price is properly attributable to the increase in synthetic production.
