HC Deb 16 May 1928 vol 217 c1054W
Mr. GALBRAITH

asked the Minister of Transport whether he will reconsider his decision to make an Order authorising the construction of a railway under the Limpsfield road at Sanderstead with a bridge limited to 50 feet in width, in view of the fact that the Coulsdon and Purley Urban District Council, as the local and road authority, are strongly opposed to the construction of a bridge of the width proposed, and have pressed for the width to be increased to 60 feet; that the town planning scheme has been altered to provide for the road to be widened to 60 feet at the request of the Ministry of Transport; and that a width of 60 feet has been proposed by the Ministry for the bridge over the main road in the parish of Cudham?

Colonel ASHLEY

The whole of the circumstances were carefully considered before my decision was arrived at, and I am not prepared to require the railway company to construct the bridge referred to of greater width than 50 feet, as agreed with the Surrey County Council and the Godstone Rural District Council.
