HC Deb 20 December 1928 vol 223 c3237W
Mr. DAY

asked the Under-Secretary of State for India whether he has any statistics that will show the number of factories in British India, the number of factory inspectors employed, the number of factories that were inspected for the 12 months ended to the last convenient date, and the number of factories at which no complete inspection was made during the same period?

Earl WINTERTON

For the calendar year 1926, which is the latest period for which full statistics are available, the figures required are:—

Factories in British India 7,251
Factories in British India inspected 6,399
Factories in British India not inspected 852

The number of inspectors including part-time inspectors on 1st January, 1927, was 49.
