HC Deb 19 December 1928 vol 223 cc3043-4W
Mr. DAY

asked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury whether the Government have purchased any typewriters during the past two years; and what was the country of origin?

Mr. SAMUEL

The number of typewriters purchased or Acquired on an exchange basis for old machines of various makes, during the past two years was 753. Six hundred and twenty-seven are of British and 126 of foreign make. Of the latter, 14 were purchased for supply on repayment terms to some authority other than an ordinary Government Department, and the remainder are special machines for which there was no British-made substitute.
