GRIFFITHSasked the Minister of Health the number of local health authorities in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight which might take action under the Maternity and Child Welfare Act, 1918, and the number of such authorities, distinguishing between county councils, county boroughs, urban districts and rural districts, that have submitted for his sanction under that Act arrangements for Provision for expectant mothers and nursing mothers and children under five years of age not in attendance at school?
Mr. CHAMBERLAINThere are 53 local health authorities (including the two county councils) in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight which are empowered to take action, with the sanction of my Department under the Maternity and Child Welfare Act, 1918. Three county borough councils and three other borough councils in these counties have made arrangements for maternity and child welfare, and in the remainder of the two counties provision has been made by the county councils.
