§ Mr. RENNIE SMITH
asked the Secretary to the Overseas Trade Department if his attention has been called to the names of foreign honorary and technical 1421W advisers recommended by the Nationalist Government in connection with the reconstruction of China, and affecting schemes for a new capital at Canton, a deep-water port, currency reform, modern harbours, and railway and road construction, involving an expenditure of £2,400,000,000; and whether any British names are associated with this proposed scheme of reconstruction?
§ Mr. HACKING
My attention has been drawn to various reports in the Press on the subject of reconstruction schemes in China, which, however, have not been confirmed. The hon. Member can rest assured that the whole question is being closely watched and reported upon by His Majesty's Minister at Peking.
