HC Deb 04 December 1928 vol 223 c1036W

asked the Minister of Transport whether, notwithstanding the representations made by him in a recent circular to local authorities urging them to use British stone for road repair and construction, more foreign stone than ever is being used by such authorities, the figures from 1st January to 31st October being 280,480 tons from Belgium and France as against 230,875 for the whole year previous, at an expenditure of £208,648 of rates and other public money; and whether he will now intimate to local authorities that no grants from the Road Fund will be given to any local authority which purchases or uses foreign stone?

Colonel ASHLEY

I would refer my hon. Friend to the answer which I gave on 28th November to a similar question from the hon. Member for the Basingstoke Division (Sir A. Holbrook) of which I am sending him a copy.
