HC Deb 22 November 1927 vol 210 c1628W
Mr. LOOKER

asked the Postmaster-General if, in view of the trunk calls' indistinctness, he can take any steps to ensure that improvement shall take place?

Sir W. MITCHELL-THOMSON

I am not aware of any general dissatisfaction in regard to speech transmission over trunk lines; on the contrary, complaints in this connection are relatively few. If my hon. Friend has any particular case in mind, I shall be glad to have it investigated.

Captain CROOKSHANK

asked the Postmaster-General which railway companies have so far agreed to cooperate in his scheme for increasing the number of telephones at rural railway stations; and how many stations have already been so provided with telephones?

Sir W. MITCHELL-THOMSON

The Great Western, and London, Midland and Scottish Railway Companies and the Cheshire lines, and Midland and Great Northern Railways Joint Committees are cooperating in the scheme; and the London and North Eastern Railway has adopted it with some modifications. Under this scheme so far 214 stations have been provided, or are in course of being provided, with telephones.
