§ Mr. R. YOUNGasked the Minister of Labour how many officials, if any, connected with the work of unemployment insurance have been prosecuted for theft and for forgery; how many have been convicted; and how many, if any, have made restitution and to what extent?
§ Mr. BETTERTONSince 1st January, 1924, there have been 53 prosecutions of members and ex-members of the staff of the Ministry for financial irregularities in connection with unemployment insurance. Convictions were obtained in 50 cases. The total sum involved in the above cases was rather less than £4,000. Restitution, wholly or in part, was made in 38 cases and amounted to, approximately, £ 1,150.
