HC Deb 17 November 1927 vol 210 cc1136-7W
Sir C. KINLOCH-COOKE

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether his attention has been called to the position at Hankow; and, in view of the fact that the agreement entered into by the British representative has been broken, will he consider the advisability of taking back the concession?

Mr. LOCKER-LAMPSON

The attitude of His Majesty's Government towards this question was fully explained in the statement made by my right hon. Friend the Foreign Secretary on the 9th May, in reply to the hon. and gallant Member for Central Hull (Lieut.-Com- mander Kenworthy), and in the reply to the Supplementary Question by my hon. Friend the Member for Kidderminster (Mr. Wardlaw-Milne). Nothing has occurred since that date to modify the principles then laid down; His Majesty's Government have no intention of resuming control of the concession unless this course is forced upon them.
