HC Deb 14 November 1927 vol 210 c658W
Colonel HOWARD-BURY

asked the Home Secretary whether he is taking any steps to bring books attacking the Mohammedan religion under the same laws as those attacking the Christian religion; and whether he will introduce legislation similar to that enacted in India to prevent the sale and distribution of such publications?

Sir W. JOYNSON-HICKS

His Majesty's Government recognise the pain that attacks on any religion may cause to the adherents of that religion; but it is impossible to take action against any publication that is not technically blasphemous or obscene, and His Majesty's Government are not prepared to undertake an alteration of the law.
