Captain A. EVANSasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if in view of the urgent necessity for lightening the burden at present borne by the taxpayer, he will take the necessary steps to decrease the existing number of 48,000 inspectors, costing £12,000,000 per annum?
Mr. SAMUELAs stated in reply to my hon. Friend the Member for Newport (Mr. Clarry) on 28th July last, the total number of inspectors for whom provision was made in the Estimates of Civil Departments for 1927 is 2,003. The number of inspectors employed, in common with other staffs, is under constant review.
