asked the President of the Board of Education how many infants' schools or departments have been closed, or merged into, or combined with other (e.g., junior, senior, or mixed) schools or departments during the years 1924, 1925, and 1926, apart from complete

Proposals for the closure of infants' schools or the amalgamation of infants' departments with other departments, are considered on their merits, regard being had, amongst other things, to the size, character and scope of the schools or departments affected. The Board's suggestions on the organisation of elementary schools are contained in Circular 1,350, a copy of which I am sending the hon. Member. As regards closure, I would refer him to the provisions of Section 19 (1) of the Education Act, 1921.
